Film still, Jud Süß (1940, Harlan)

We offer an exceedingly rare original full–sized 23 cm x 29 cm lobby card (Aushangfoto) from the Veit Harlan propaganda film, Jud Süß. The photo has the full white border on all four sides, which is slightly cropped here in this scanned image. The image of stunning actress Kristina Söderbaum, playing the role of Dorothea, is an iconic photograph from this film. She has brought in her hand a petition to Duke Alexander for the release of her fiancé, Faber. He has been falsely imprisoned by Süss, who wants to remove him as her fiancé so he  can marry her himself. Süss intercepts her with the petition and prevents her from seeing the Duke.

Süss then rips up her petition and forces her to submit to his sexual desires by having his henchmen torture Faber until she agrees to his carnal desire. This rape scene was reputedly inserted in the revised film script at the insistence of Dr. Goebbels, who felt a tortured lover scene he knew from the Puccini opera Tosca was highly effective as a dramatic tool.

The photograph is in overall good condition for it's age, with the Terra Filmkunst film studio logo and the film title on the front, as was standard practice for Third Reich films. The price includes registered international airmail postage world wide, which is the equivalent of approximately €15- of the price.
